Sub for Santa
A flyer was sent home with information about our service project. This year our students will be collecting and sharing commercially packaged non-perishable items to aid families and individuals who are struggling in our community. We will also be collecting toys to give to children who, without our help, would not have gifts on Christmas morning. Each day we will be asking for certain items to be donated. Thank you in advance for supporting this worthwhile project.
Thanksgiving Spelling Bee
Our Thanksgiving Spelling Bee was a lot of fun this year! We are so proud of our students for putting an effort into studying for this event and having enough courage to spell in front of others. As students participated in this event it was nice to see students complement one another and encourage classmates to do their best. In our school-wide spelling bee we invite 4th, 5th and 6th graders to participate. The winner received a turkey and a pie. The two runners up received pies. Congratulations to the following students:
1st place: Elizabeth Cottle (4th grade)
2nd place: Kate Nielsen (4th grade)
3rd place: Konner Saunders (6th grade)
STAR Tutoring is Out of This World
We have had a tremendous response to our call for volunteers with the new STAR tutoring program! We now have 38 trained volunteers from within the community working one-on-one with over 70 students to give these kids a little extra boost in reading. This is amazing! In addition to that, Mrs. Mumford, our new reading specialist, and her amazing aides help an additional 96 students four days per week in small groups. Reading is a top priority at our school!
Thanks to all of you amazing parents that are making sure reading continues to be a priority in your home with 20 minutes of reading every night. Have you seen the new online graphs for Road to Success? Check out the grade-level pages under the "classrooms" tab to see how your child's class compares.
